How restaking is structured
Restaking can refer to using assets already committed to a proof-of-stake network—or a representative token—as collateral for another validation service. This may create an additional reward opportunity while layering new duties and rules onto one asset. Delegation and settlement designs differ, so the label alone does not describe the risk.
Additional services and rewards
Read which actions can trigger slashing or reduced rewards, who selects operators, and how downtime, double-signing, or missed responses are judged. Penalty caps, appeals, and the respective responsibilities of operators and delegators matter. Check whether multiple services depend on the same validator set or client software.
Conditions that can trigger slashing
Withdrawal delays for the underlying stake and the market price of a liquid token can diverge. Compare displayed rewards after considering fees, penalty exposure, lockups, and smart-contract risk. Additional yield may compensate for additional obligations; it does not guarantee principal or rewards.
A hypothetical validator
If a hypothetical validator serves two systems and an outage in one overlaps with penalty conditions in the other, losses may occur at the same time. Map operator concentration, client diversity, and whether the same stake or collateral supports multiple obligations instead of comparing headline reward rates alone.
Withdrawal and liquidity constraints
Verify official contract addresses, upgrade authority, audit scope, and emergency procedures, then read the conditions for the longest possible exit delay. If a liquid staking token trades at a discount, check how the underlying stake can actually be redeemed and whether there is a withdrawal queue.
Review documentation and contract risk
Slashing rules differ by service, and realized losses depend on network conditions and implementation. Do not estimate expected returns from an advertised annualized rate without checking its observation period, compounding assumptions, and token-price assumptions. This article does not recommend using any staking product.
